Chapter Gatherings

General Notes

The Lincoln Chapter meets on the second Sunday of the month, September through May. Sunday gatherings are held 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Donlan Conference Center at Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln, with Vespers in the chapel following the gathering.

For the Sunday Chapter meeting, use the east entrance and look to the right to find the Donlan Conference Center. The group adjourns to the Madonna Chapel after announcements, a reflection, Lectio Divina, and book discussion. Vespers are read in the Chapel.

You are always welcome to bring a guest, such as a spouse, relative or friend to the sessions.

Chapter Gathering Readings

For 2026-2027 we are continuing to read Preferring Christ: A Devotional Commentary on the Rule of St. Benedict by Norvene Vest. The Chapter Gathering readings are as follows:

  • September – nothing from Chapter book. Other readings may be suggested.
  • October – Interlude III, Ch 8-11
  • November – Ch 12-16
  • December – No assignment
  • January – Ch 17-20, Interlude IV
  • February – Ch 21-30
  • March – Ch 31-35
  • April – Ch 36-42
  • May – Interlude VI, Ch 43-46

Inquirer Gatherings

Inquirers and those who are in their novice (first) year as Oblates will have an opportunity to learn each month as they study the Oblate Handbook. Inquirers and novices will meet during Chapter Gatherings with a seasoned Benedictine Oblate to learn about the Holy Rule, Benedictine spirituality, and monasticism. Readings for Inquirers and novices are from the Oblate Handbook. The Oblate Handbook is available on this website, see above.
